Kona’s been having some minor digestive issues for the past month or so. For a while, she was on a bland chicken-and-rice diet, which was successful in settling things down. But when we switched back to her usual puppy chow, she had trouble again.
Eventually, we found out she had coccidia, which we treated with medicine from the vet. Now she’s back on puppy chow after another round of bland dieting. To aid in achieving more regular digestion after the switch, the vet recommended adding canned pumpkin to her food.
Apparently, pumpkin (a good source of fiber) is a common remedy for irritated puppy tummies. Who knew? To avoid getting graphic about Kona’s stools, I’ll just say that it’s working!
